ANANTAPUR, APRIL 7. At a time when the State Government has been working towards giving no room for complaints from wage-seekers by hiking the wages for all the wage employment works, use of machinery in a few works, which is violation of the concept of wage employment, in the district has again caused aberration in the administration. Two village secretaries were suspended a several others were served show-cause notices by the officials regarding the four works where machinery was used. Besides, the machinery concerned has been blacklisted from use in any other Government work in future. The State Government had recently (from April 1) hiked the wages to Rs. 80 per cubic metre of earthwork for all wage employment works. The Government allowed an additional 10 per cent wages (Rs. 88 per cubic metre) for works taken up on hard soil.
Food-for-work
The officials have found use of machinery in works taken up under the National Food-for-work programme at Nagulapadu in Singanamala mandal, at K. K. Palyam in Gudibanda mandal and in Kadiri rural mandal. Another work at Thimmalapuram in Gudibanda mandal was under the Hariyali watershed scheme. At Nagulapadu work was undertaken at a cost of Rs. 30,000 for a farm pond formation under the Food-for-work programme. While Rs. 6,000 worth of work was done manually the rest was done using a poclain. After an inquiry by the Joint Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, the work was cancelled and the village secretary suspended. Besides, show-cause notices were served on the MPDO and the mandal engineer. At K. K. Palyam, the entire work pertaining to a pond (Chakalikunta) was being done using two poclains. After inquiry, the work was cancelled, the machines were seized and the village secretary suspended. Another was used for the watershed work at Thimmalapuram.
