By Our Staff Reporter

KARUR, APRIL 7. Music provides a soothing touch and helps in completing a job in as perfect a manner as possible.

Youngsters could utilise the opportunity to learn music at affordable cost at the Government Music Schools in various districts, this was emphasised by all the speakers at the seventh annual day celebrations of the Government Music School and the sixth anniversary of the Jawahar Bal Bhavan here on Tuesday.

The Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies, S. Karikalan, pointed out how music therapy played a significant role in healthcare and healing process. Soul stirring music provided a soothing touch to the mind and also rejuvenated the body, he observed.

The Regional Assistant Director, Art and Culture, R. Gunasekaran, said the Government was taking steps to propagate music among children and others. As part of the process, the district-wise Kalai awards were being presented and identity cards were being issued to artistes as a token of recognition. So far, 15 artistes from Karur have been bestowed the Kalai awards, he said.

Mr. Gunasekaran disclosed that his department would conduct a drama festival in association with the Narada Gana Sabha in Karur shortly.
