KURNOOL, APRIL 7. The Ugadi festival central committee here has imposed a dress code for participants attending the function on April 9 wherein they are required to appear in the traditional Telugu dress comprising cotton dhoti, kurta and "kanduva.'' Addressing reporters here on Thursday, the chairman of the committee, S. Venkateswarlu, requested presspersons covering the function also to adhere to the dress code. He even offered Rs 5,000 to buy `Kanduvas' for presspersons through the district public relations officer, S. Mahabub Basha, who turned down the offer saying that he would face an unpleasant situation if he could not supply the garment to all the reporters.
Help for first-timers
The organisers said they would deploy a few ace dhoti-wrapping experts to help the first-timers. A special enclosure would be spared for people to change into dhoti and kurta at the Sunayana Auditorium. On arrival, the guests would be offered Ugadi Pachchadi, perfume and greetings in a traditional manner. Pagidyala Ananda Teerthacharyulu would read from the almanac of Pardheevanama Samvatsara, while a group of poets will take part in the Sammelan. The Government Music College and Lalita Kalasamithi would present cultural programmes. The members of the celebration committee, S. Venkatarangam, P. Lingaswamy, M. Nagaraju, K. Kistanna and others were present.
