Women's empowerment: Shinde lauds State

SIRPUR (NIZAMABAD DT.), APRIL 7. The Governor, Susheel Kumar Shinde, has observed that women in the State are increasingly becoming self-reliant and doing works worth lakhs of rupees with the cooperation of banks and the Government.

Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation for a water scheme, here on Thursday, he complimented the State Government for its efforts to empower women by promoting thrift groups in a big way. He said the State had become ideal for other States in respect of implementation of empowerment schemes for women.He advised the youth not to depend on Government jobs but try to come up in life by making use of available opportunities.

Water scheme

The Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, said the water scheme, taken up with an estimated cost of Rs.18 crores, was intended to supply drinking water to 53 villages spread over Nizamabad, Navipet, Renjal and Yedapally mandals.

He said once the Ali Sagar lift irrigation scheme, costing Rs.50 crores, was completed, it would be able to irrigate 12,000 acres in Nizamabad constituency where no irrigation sources were available.

Mr. Shinde earlier laid the foundation to the culvert-strengthening works costing Rs.1.98 crores on the Nizamabad-Manchippa road and opened a bridge at Kanjara village.

In the afternoon, he laid the stone for Dharmapuri Colony at Sarangapur village and to the IRCS blood bank to be constructed at a cost of Rs.12 lakhs at the mandal revenue office premises.

The ZP Chairman, G. Sadanandam, the MLA, S. Gangaram, the Market Committee Chairman, Nagesh Reddy, the DCC president, G. Gangadhar, the Collector, D.V. Raidu, and the Joint Collector, G. Venkatrami Reddy, were present.
