BSES gesture to consumers

NEW DELHI APRIL 7. The power distribution company BSES has decided to bear the cost of Rs.5 per bill currently charged from consumers for making payments at its 400 Eazy Bill outlets. According to R K Aggarwal, BSES chief executive officer, it is a goodwill gesture towards consumers and would lead to a significant rise in consumer utilisation of the Eazy Bill outlet facility that remains open for 12 hours throughout the year.

Besides, BSES consumers can also deposit their electricity bills at 33 BSES divisional offices, 200 BSES cash counters and 200 Skypack drop boxes. "These arrangements will help dramatically cut down the time the consumer has to spend in paying his bills," said a BSES spokesperson.

U.S. varsity's offer

NEW DELHI APRIL 7. Sudhir Mehta, Associate Vice-President (Academic) of North Dakota State University, U.S., visited the Ansal Institute of Technology at Gurgaon earlier this week. He informed that the University plans to open an off-campus site and offer degree programmes in India from next year and an advisory board has been set-up for the project.

The educational programme at the off-campus site would be unique and innovative and based on the latest research on education and NDSUs experience with the learning community programme in the US. Every successful student passing out from the Ansal Institute of Technology is eligible for a substantial scholarship paid by the NDSU, he said.

Prof. Mehta said in the coming years the demand for IT professionals would increase and therefore emphasise should be on quality education. India has excellent institutions such as IIT and IISC but lacked facilities like some of the leading universities in the U.S. These institutions should work more on projects and research work, he added.
