KOCHI, APRIL 7. A two-day workshop on business opportunities in renewable energy will be held here on April 19 and 20 under the aegis of the Institute of Small Enterprises and Development (ISED). Delegates from various Asian countries, the Netherlands and Germany are expected to attend the workshop, said a press release today. It said that awareness about renewable energy sources, rising fuel prices and the activities of promotional agencies had made renewable energy products widely acceptable over the last three decades. However, the market had not grown enough and it did not give the right signals to trigger private sector investments in the sector. Entrepreneurs generally did not consider renewable energy-based enterprises viable business opportunities and consumers still harboured doubts about their reliability as perfect substitutes for conventional electricity. This is the concern that prompted the ISED to organise this workshop.
