ALAPPUZHA, APRIL 7. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad international working president, Ashok Singhal, has said that the Union and the State Governments were deliberately delaying the rehabilitation of the tsunami-affected people to help those agencies which aim to convert Hindu fishermen to other faiths. Launching an action plan of the Seva Bharati for the comprehensive development of tsunami-affected people of Arattupuzha panchayat at Valiyazheekkal Government Higher Secondary School today, Mr. Singhal said the strategy was to maximise the suffering of these people so that they would accept any condition set by the aiding agencies. The voluntary agencies would try to convince the people that the donors would dole out large sums if they changed their faiths, he said. The fact that the State Government selected 29 agencies from minority communities for rehabilitation works compared to two organisations from the Hindu communities testifies to the vested interest of the Government, he said. Hindu organisations were denied opportunity to conduct rehabilitation work with the aim of carrying out conversions, he alleged. Even the Mata Amritanandamayi Math was being restrained by the State Government, he added.
