Udhagamandalam, April 7. Preparations for the Annual Floral Carnival have begun at the Government Botanical Garden here. It is scheduled for May 21 and May 22. Continuous rain for the last couple of days has brought cheer to the farming community especially the tea growers. It has also helped improve the water levels in reservoirs. The manager of the garden, N. Mani told The Hindu today that the weather conditions had hit the revenue of the tourist spot. While last week about 4,000 people visited the garden on a daily basis, the number had come down to 2,000 now. As a precautionary measure the main lawn of the garden had been cordoned off to prevent visitors from entering the lawn from Wednesday, Mr. Mani said. It will not be available for the visitors till May 1. The 14-acre garden had been barricaded with ropes and special security staff posted at vantage points. Boards indicating that maintenance work was in progress have also been put up. He said urea was being applied in a systematic manner on the lawn.
