Sensex drops 61 points on late selling
MUMBAI,
APRIL 7.
The overnight rally was short-lived and after early signs of upsurge, stocks today beat a hasty retreat pushing the Sensex down by 61 points due to late selling pressure from operators and retail investors amid continued foreign institutional investment inflows, albeit in small value.
The BSE benchmark 30-share index opened firm at 6629.12 and even spurted to the intra-day high of 6644.29 following fresh buying prompted by indications of a hike in FII cap in public sector banks and easing oil prices. However, the Sensex later turned weak and moved downwards to the day's low of 6530.97 before ending the day at 6545.64 against yesterday's close of 6606.41, a net fall of 60.77 points.
Brokers partly attributed the late sell-off to slowdown in FII inflows.
