MYSORE, APRIL 7. The weekend theatre at Rangayana will feature "Apsare" from Saturday. Directed by the Rangayana Director, Chidambara Rao Jambe, "Apsare" is an adaptation of Kalidasa's Vikramorvashia. Addressing presspersons here today, Mr. Jambe said the weekend theatre has been getting good response since its inception three years ago. Fifteen plays have been staged at the weekend theatre so far. Besides Kannada, he said, plays in other languages have also been staged. Each play is staged during the weekend for one and a half months. Regarding "Apsare," Mr. Jambe said the play has been translated into Kannada from Sanskrit by J. Srinivas Murthy. Apsare has a modern setting while the original deals with the emotions of a king during the period of Kalidasa.
Chinnara Mela
Mr. Jambe said Girish Karnad, theatre personality, will inaugurate a Chinnara Mela on Sunday. The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, H.S. Mahadev Prasad; the Chairman of the Nataka Academy, Srinivas G. Kuppanna; and the Mysore MP, C.H. Vijayashankar, will participate. He said Rangayana is expecting the participation of 350 children in the mela to be conducted by C. Basavalingaiah, theatre director. The monthlong mela will focus on providing a cultural platform to children to express their dreams. Those interested in participating in the mela may contact the office of Rangayana on the Kalamandira premises or call 2512639 or 2415905.
