MUMBAI, APRIL 7. Tata Motors had the unique distinction in 2004-05 of all its five brands emerging as segment leaders. Indica registered its highest ever sales in March breaching the 11,000 sales mark for the first time by selling 11,056 units. It also crossed the one-lakh sale mark for the first time in any financial year. At 1.06 lakh numbers for the fiscal, the Indica emerged as the largest selling compact car in the Rs. 3-5 lakh price category. The Indigo family also registered its highest-ever sales in any month with sales of 4,584 numbers in March, crossing the 4,000 mark for the first time in any month. Cumulative sales for the Indigo family in its second full financial year amounted to 39,306 vehicles, a growth of 40.5 per cent. The Indigo Sedan emerged as the largest selling sedan for the year not only in the entry mid-size segment, but also across all segments of the industry. Indigo Marina, which made its debut in September 2004 emerged as the largest selling estate for the fiscal.
Rise in exports
In the utility vehicle segment, Sumo and Safari registered sales of 4,355 numbers in March. Cumulative sales for the fiscal were the highest in the last seven years and amounted to 34,249 numbers, a growth of 7.5 per cent. Sumo re-emerged as the largest selling utility vehicle in the fiscal after four years. Exports in March were 3,984 numbers, an increase of 113 per cent. Cumulative exports for 2004-05 were 30,496 vehicles, an increase of 38.3 per cent. The company recorded a total sales of 3.99 lakh vehicles (including exports) for 2004-05; a growth of 27.2 per cent.
