THRISSUR, APRIL 7. Hundreds of people from various walks of life today participated in a procession and public meeting held here this afternoon to condole the death of Pope John Paul II. Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, described the Pope as a messiah of peace who relentlessly strived to end all forms of hostilities between different nations and people. The Speaker said the voice of the Pope was the most noticed voice of peace, harmony and saneness in the world in the last couple of years. He had set the ground for leading the Church into this millennium in a mature way. The Archbishop Mar Jacob Thumkuzhy; Bishop Paul Marzel Heriat from France, Bishop Yuhannan Mar Milithios; the Auxiliary Bishop of Thrissur, Mar Andrews Thazhath; the Thrissur Mayor, K. Radhakrishnan; the Collector, K.S. Premachandra Kurup; the Cochin Devaswom Board president, M.A. Krishnanunni; the president of the Institute of Mappila Studies, P.K. Muhammedkunji; the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Thrissur, N.F. Enasu, and the secretary of the pastoral council, Thomas Mathew, were among those who spoke on the occasion. The MLAs K.P. Rajendran, A.C. Moideen, P.P. George and M.K. Paulson were among those on the front row of the procession.
