By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, APRIL 7. Malabar Gold, a major jewellery company of Kerala, plans to open 25 outlets across the country over the next five years.

The cities include Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Coimbatore.

Part of the Rs. 500-crore Malabar Group of Kozhikode, the jewellers are opening their first shop on April 12 on Dickenson Road here.

The showroom will sell gold, platinum and diamond jewellery, besides upmarket Swiss watches. Some of the jewellery will be sourced from Kolkata, Karwar, Mumbai, Rajkot, Singapore, Bahrain and Italy, the chairman of the group, M.P. Ahmed, told presspersons here on Thursday.

The gold ornaments come with Bureau of Indian Standards certification for purity.

Malabar Gold announced that tennis star Sania Mirza and Malayalam actor Mohanlal would be its brand ambassadors.

The group has malls in Kozhikode and Palakkad and retail outlets in several cities in Kerala.

Its other activities include construction, leasing of commercial complexes, real estate, luxury hotels and distribution of watches, Mr. Ahmed said.

There are no immediate plans to enter the real-estate market in Bangalore but that may not be ruled out in the future, he said.
