After the end of the question hour, A. Anbalagan of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rose to point out that cracks had formed in some areas in Veerampattinam, Nallavadu and in Uppalam.

This had causd panic among the tsunami-hit people in these areas. They feared a recurrence of the tsunami, Mr. Anbalagan said. He urged the administration to to study the scientific reasons for the formation of cracks and oozing of water from the ground in these villages.

Mr. Rangasamy told Mr. Anbalagan that he had been informed about the phenomena yesterday, and had directed PWD officials to seek the services of GSI and oceanographic personnel to carry out an investigation.

During zero hour, Theni C. Jayakumar of the Tamil Maanila Congress brought to Mr. Rangasamy's notice the plight of farmers who had lost nearly 600 acres of fertile land in Villianoor block due to the ingress of seawater. The farmers should be compensated, Mr. Jayakumar said.
