Dairy Fest-2005 begins today

PATHANAMTHITTA, APRIL 7. The District Dairy Fest-2005 will be held on April 8 and April 9 on the Nediayakala Milk Cooperative Society premises (Ksheera Nagar), near Elavumthitta, in Aranmula panchayat.

Addressing a press conference today, the organising committee chairman, M.N. Purushothaman, and the general convener, P.Vijayakumar, said the two-day festival would begin with the flag-hoisting ceremony at 8 a.m. The founder president of the Nediyakala Milk Cooperative Society, A.N. Gopalakrishnan Nair, will hoist the ceremonial flag.

The Aranmula grama panchayat president, V.R. Unnikrishnan Nair, will inaugurate the cattle exhibition organised as part of the festival.

A dairy quiz contest will be held at 11.30 a.m. followed by a workshop on dairy development at 2 p.m. The Kulanada block panchayat president, Johnson Ullannoor, will inaugurate the workshop at a function to be presided over by the Mezhuveli grama panchayat president, Anjana Suresh.

S.P. Sivakumaran, Deputy Director, Dairy Development Department, will talk on the dairy farmers' pension scheme and B. Unnikrishnan on the pension scheme for the dairy workers. Mohan Roy of the Life Insurance Corporation of India, Kottayam, will also deliver a lecture on Janasree Beema Yojana at the workshop.

Seminar

The Minister for Agriculture, K.R. Gouri, will inaugurate a seminar on dairy development on April 9. The Water Resources Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, will felicitate the dairy farmers on the occasion. Malethu Saraladevi, MLA, will preside.

C.S. Sujatha, MP, K.K. Nair, Raju Abraham, Elizabeth Mammen Mathai, Jospeh M. Puthusserry, A.N. Rajanbabu, K.K. Shaju, all MLAs, the State Planning Board member, Peelipose Thomas, the district panchayat president, K.K. Royson, the State Agriculture Cooperative Bank president, K. Sivadasan Nair, the Milma chairman, P.T. Gopala Kurup, and the Poultry Development Corporation chairman, N.N. Sadanandan, will address the seminar.

The Joint Director of Dairy Development Department, K.T. Sarojini, is the moderator of the seminar and R. Vijayan of the Kerala Agriculture University will deliver the keynote address.
