Uttar Pradesh
LUCKNOW, APRIL 7. Public sector telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would launch its much-hyped Broadband service in Uttar Pradesh next week. ``Trials have been on for quite some time in Lucknow and other parts of the state,'' BSNL, UP (East) Circle, principal general manager Vijay Shanker Srivastava told newspersons here today. He said final stage trials were on in the state Capital for launching the services. ``Lucknow will be the first place in UP to boast of the broadband service. Other places will follow in a phased manner.'' The BSNL official claimed that in Lucknow itself about 1,500 people had applied for the service and in the first phase 300 consumers would be given connections. Elaborating the feature of the broadband services, he said consumers could access unlimited internet with a monthly rent of Rs 500. ``The consumer will also have to pay Rs 100 per month as modem rental.'' During installation, a consumer has to pay Rs 2,424 that includes Rs 500 each for installation and security, while rest would be adjusted as two monthly rentals for the service and modem. On the demand for pre-paid mobile connections in the cirle, Mr Srivastava said the 1.68 lakh waiting list would be cleared by the end of this year. ``We are trying to give a maximum number of pre-paid cards within two-three months and by the year-end mobile connections in the circle would be given on demand,'' he claimed. The BSNL official said 43 new BTS towers would be installed in the state capital and efforts were on to erect additional BTS towers to cope up with heavy rush during peak hrs. - UNI
