THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 7. The Cabinet today decided to issue notification exempting tea and coffee plantations from Agricultural Income Tax for the financial years, 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the concession would not apply to plantation companies. The Cabinet had approved a Rs. 2.15-crore project, submitted by the Kannur Collector, for rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharging for the Ezhimala Naval AcademyThe Government, Mr. Chandy said, had fulfilled promises given by the Government to the Navy regarding land, road development, water supply and electricity for the Academy. Whatever is needed to be done now would be carried out. He announced that the Government would grant Rs. 25,000 each to fishermen who had been released from the custody of Pakistan and had returned to the country. (They had been taken into custody by Pakistan authorities when they strayed into that country's territorial waters).
