I alone cannot solve the problem: Chandy

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 7. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, said here today that settlement of the problems in the State unit was beyond him.

Talking to presspersons after the Cabinet meeting today, the Chief Minister said he was not against discussing the issues. However, the issues were not something that he alone could solve.

Mr. Chandy said that the organisational elections would take place without any hitch. The organisational elections would bring about a solution to the problems.

He parried questions whether a section of the Congressmen had worked against the patch-up between senior leaders, K. Karunakaran and A. K. Antony prior to the Lok Sabha elections and for the defeat of the Congress in the polls.

He said that the difference between him and Mr. Antony over disciplinary action was nothing new. "Mr. Antony was always opposed to disciplinary action. Our stand was against that." So, his present soft line towards dissidents was no surprise.
