Two men arrested, goods recovered

MANGALORE, APRIL 7. The District Anti-Rowdy Squad, led by Sub-Inspector Parameshwar Hegde, on Thursday arrested two persons of Nepali origin and recovered items worth Rs. 60,000 from them that they allegedly stole from a house in Udupi.

According to a press release, Ram Bahadur Thapa (27) and Rajendra Kumar (20), both gurkhas, were spotted near Nehru Maidan, 1st Cross, here with two large rexine bags and a cardboard box.

Confessed

When the personnel searched the bags and box, they found clothes, a mixer grinder, an iron box, silver mugs, steel utensils, and other items.

Upon interrogation, they reportedly confessed to having stolen the items from the house of Chandra Mohan K.B. of Kinnikambla, Udupi.

Mr. Mohan had gone to a relative's house at Kallianpur, when they struck.

Investigation is on to ascertain their involvement in other theft cases.

A person, who was coming to Kalladka to buy medicines reportedly lost his balance and fell into a tank at Kashekodi Balthila village and drowned on Wednesday.

The police said that the victim, Balappa Gowda (45) was with Yellyanna Gowda, his father-in-law, when the incident occurred.

A case has been registered on a complaint from Mr. Yellyanna Gowda.

Investigation is on.

Suicides

Two persons ended their lives in the district in the last 24 hours. The police said that Umesh Gowda (40) of Bajathur village coming under Uppinangady Police Station limits, was facing personal and financial problems.

He is said to have consumed poison to end his life.

Purushottam (55), brother of Babu Shettigar of Kinnigoli village coming under Mulki Police Station limits, ended his life, as he was facing personal problems owing to excess consumption of alcohol, police said.

The Mulki police are investigating the case.
