MANGALORE, APRIL 7. Cardiac surgeons at A.J. Hospital and Research Centre here successfully conducted a complicated operation to correct "tetralogy of fallot," a common congenital cyanotic heart disease, on Wasim Akram last week. According to a press release from Prashanth Marla, medical director of the centre, here on Thursday, the disease manifests itself in early childhood owing to a development abnormality of the heart and requires surgery. The condition is characterised by obstruction to blood flow from the right ventricle, ventricular septal defect,thickening of right ventricle, and right-sided deviation of the aorta. He said that ultrasound examination is required to diagnose the rare condition. Wasim has fully recovered, the release said.
