UDUPI, APRIL 7. The Deputy Commissioner, T. Sham Bhatt, on Thursday said that as many as 89,135 children in the district will be administered polio drops on Sunday. Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Bhatt said that the pulse polio drops will be given to children below the age of five in 525 booths in the district. As many as 63 vehicles will be used for this purpose. As many as 288 volunteers and 105 supervisors will oversee the work. Twelve booths will be opened at bus stands and railway stations and eight mobile units will also be pressed into service. Polio drops will also be administered in 10 private nursing homes. In Udupi taluk, as many as 190 booths will be opened in rural areas to administer these drops to 32,992 children. In urban areas, 29 booths will be opened to immunise 6,624 children. In Kundapur taluk, 30,258 children will be given polio drops in 190 booths that will be set up in rural areas. In the urban areas of the taluk, nine booths will be opened to provide these drops to 1,890 children. The District Health and Family Welfare Officer, B.M. Hegde, was present.
