VIJAYAWADA, APRIL 7. The Minority Finance Corporation Chairman, Farooq Hussain, has exhorted members of the Muslim and Christian communities to effectively utilize various schemes introduced by the State Government. Participating in a meeting organised to distribute loans to the members of the minority communities here on Thursday, he said that the State Government, headed by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had increased the budget of the Minority Finance Corporation from Rs. 22 crores to Rs. 34 crores during the current year.
Procedures simplified
The Government had also simplified the procedures for obtaining assistance under the welfare schemes intended to benefit the minority communities. Accordingly, the members of minority communities could now obtain loans ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 for starting petty businesses without any bank linkages. Steps were also initiated to provide assistance amounting to Rs. 5 lakhs for students of minority communities for pursuing professional education. This apart, efforts were also being made to provide 5 per cent reservations in education and employment, but the matter was under the examination of the High Court. Mr. Hussain said that the Government had also initiated steps to give maximum benefits for minority communities in the implementation of Rajiv Yuvashakti, Rajiv Gruha Kalpa and other schemes. The VGTM-UDA chairman, Malladi Vishnu, explained the steps taken by the Congress Governments at State and Centre for minorities' welfare.
