Weather

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.1 degree Celsius on Thursday. Humidity which was 66 per cent in the morning dropped to 58 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - 49, palmolein oil - 40.50, sunflower oil - 48, tamarind (flower variety) - 21 to 26, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 39 to 46, chillies (AC) - 18 to 20, chillies (new) - 18 to 23, rice (2716) - 12, rice (superfine) - 14, rice (samba masoori) - 15 to 16, rice (sona masoori) - 16 to 17, black gram - 22 to 25, red gram - 22 to 26.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 8 a.m. and 12 noon on Friday in some areas under Mutyalampadu and Gunadala sections due to pre-arranged shutdown for taking up PMI works.

The affected areas are: Ramakrishnapuram, Devinagar, part of G.S. Raju road, Saibaba colony, Indira colony, Pappula Mill, Government press, Gunadala, Urmilanagar, Don Bosco school area, Kamalanagar, Lenin Centre and Gandhiji colony. Power supply will not be available between 7 am and 12.30 pm in part of Old HB colony, New HB colony, Teachers colony and Crambay road in Bhavanipuram section.

Candidates'

list displayed

The list of candidates selected for training for vocational courses offered free of cost by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation have been displayed on the notice board in the UCD wing on the municipal corporation premises.

The corporation invited applications from unemployed youth with a minimum qualification of 10th standard for the courses being held as part of the Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojana and the interviews were held on April 6.

Progress of

works reviewed

The Municipal Commissioner, V. Usharani, has stressed the need for the officials concerned to develop parks in the residential colonies involving the local residents.

The Municipal Commissioner who held a meeting to review the progress of works taken up in different localities on Thursday wanted the officials to take steps to develop play grounds as well as greenery belts in the residential areas.
