KOCHI, APRIL 7. K.P. Rajappan Nair was removed from the post of dean for absenting himself from viva-voce for Ph.D. courses conducted by the university and any report on this alleging a difference of opinion between the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar is baseless, said a press release issued by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) here today. The release said the Vice-Chancellor appointed dean to lead academic activities of students and it was the responsibility of the latter to forward all documents related to researches done under the university. However, Dr. Rajappan Nair failed to turn up for viva-voce on many occasions. When contacted, the university got a message that he was on foreign tour. Viva-voce of three students had to be postponed as Dr. Rajappan Nair did not turn up. The university had to make alternative arrangements for conducting these examinations. Though the Vice-Chancellor had summoned Dr. Rajappan Nair to brief him about the inconvenience caused by his absence, there was no change and hence the university was forced to remove him from the post, the release said.
