Youth hoodwink woman into parting with her ornaments

BANGALORE, APRIL 7. Posing as policemen, three youths relieved a woman of her gold ornaments valued at Rs. 35,000 in the Byatarayanapura Police Station limits on Wednesday.

The police said around 2.30 p.m. Susheela Bai (45), a resident of Ayanna Shetty Layout on Mysore Road, was walking towards a tailor's shop near her house when the three youths in plain clothes accosted her and introduced themselves as policemen.

They told her that a woman had been murdered and robbed of her gold ornaments on the neighbouring road and forced her to remove her two gold chains.

They wrapped them in a newspaper and gave the packet to her, the police said.

A few minutes later, when Susheela Bai opened the packet, she found a shoe polish box filled with pebbles.

The Byatarayanapura Police have registered a case.

Woman robbed

Two youths reportedly robbed a woman of a gold chain after threatening her with a knife at her house in the Yelahanka New Town Police Station limits on Wednesday.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m. two youths knocked on the door of Kavitha's house near Mother Dairy in Yelahanka New Town.

Kavitha (24), who was with her friend, Elizabeth, opened the door assuming that her father had returned home from work.

The two youths threatened her with a knife and robbed her of a gold chain worth Rs. 2,500, the police said.

The Yelahanka New Town Police have registered a case.

Cheated

A woman was cheated of Rs. 13,500 by two youths at a bank in the Vijayanagar Police Station limits on Thursday.

The police said that around 12.30 p.m. Usha Ramesh had withdrawn Rs. 1.90 lakhs from a cooperative bank near the Vijayanagar Club.

As she was counting the Rs. 500- denomination notes in the bank, two youths offered to assist her and she agreed.

After they left, she noticed that 27 notes were missing, the police said. On a complaint by Usha, the Vijayanagar Police have registered a case.

Suicide

A woman committed suicide by hanging at the flat of her employer, a Japanese, in the Cubbon Park Police Station limits on Wednesday.

The police said C.P. Pushpa (35), a resident of J.P. Nagar, hanged herself to death from the ceiling fan at the flat on Lavelle Road.

Her employer is the managing director of a food products manufacturing firm here.

She has left a note saying no one was responsible for her death, the police said. The Cubbon Park Police have registered a case.

Recovered

The Subramanyapura Police on Tuesday arrested four persons on the charge of theft and recovered from them eight car stereos and two LPG cylinders, in all worth Rs. 30,000.

The police gave their names as Prakash (22), Murthu Sab (19) and Yogesh (20), all residents of Jaraganahalli, and Rajesh (18) of Hulimavu.

Autopsy report

An autopsy of a rag-picker found dead near BHEL factory in the Bytarayanapura Police Station limits on Monday night, has revealed the cause of his death.

The report said that he had consumed poison.

The police gave the name of the victim as Srinivas (20).

The report also showed several bloodstains on the body.

The bloodstains, according to the police, were the result of Srinivas scratching himself with a blade as a means to seek alms.

He was addicted to alcohol, the police said.
