Eesha springs a surprise

DUBAI, APRIL 8. Pune-based Woman International Master Eesha Karavade surprised Ukraine's Grandmaster Alexander Areshchenko and ONGC's Abhijeet Gupta held Chinese GM Wang Yue as India's talented brigade made its presence felt during the fourth round of the Dubai International chess tournament here on Thursday.

Among the Indian GMs, K. Humpy won and Sandipan Chanda drew to reach three points. Though Abhijit Kunte and R. B. Ramesh lost, seasoned campaigner Lanka Ravi drew with ninth seeded Iranian GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami. Twelve-year-old Parimarjan Negi proved equal to Ukraine's IM Yuriy Kuzubov. In an all-India affair, G. Balaji upstaged his Tamil Nadu mate, IM S. Kidambi.

On the top table, Georgia's Giorgi Kacheishvili defeated compatriot Merab Gagunashvili to lead with a four points.
