SANGAREDDY, APRIL 8. In a major setback to the naxalite movement in Medak district, the CPI (Maoist) District Committee Secretary (DCS), Gangula Srinivas Yadav alias Sadanandam, surrendered before the Nizamabad and Medak range DIG, Anjani Kumar, here on Friday. Sadanandam hails from Seethampet of Mutharam mandal of Karimnagar district. He was attracted to the movement while studying in the Gajwel Polytechnic College during 1992. After holding different positions in the party, he was elevated as district committee member in 2003. He was in charge of two "tactical counter offensive campaigns." He was responsible for the killing of five TDP activists in Mahbubnagar district and was sent to strengthen the organisation in Medak in December 2003.
Movement `weakens'
Sadanandam, who was accompanied by his father, told reporters that the movement had weakened due to overemphasis on military operations. Denying that he was pressured by the police to surrender, Sadanandam said that ideological differences with the central command prompted him to lay down arms. After the unification of the Maoist Communist Centre and the People's War during talks in Hyderbad, the chasm between the district, State and Central committees had increased. He also denied that he had any role in the recent killing of two former naxals -- Jodu Anjaneyulu and Besta Kistayya of Islampur. The Medak Superintendent of Police, B.L. Sujatha Rao, was present.
