Bidar
By Our Staff Correspondent
BIDAR, APRIL 8. The Bidar District Chemists and Druggists Association withdrew its three-day bandh called to protest against the introduction of value added tax (VAT), after the State Government agreed to consider their demand of a single-point tax payment system. Office-bearers of the association said that officials of the Commercial Taxes Department and the Finance Secretariat had agreed to consider the demand if the Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, clears the proposal. The association told officials that dealers in Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Orissa had accepted VAT only after the single-point system was introduced. The association threatened to restart the agitation if the Government does not fulfil their demand in the near future.
