NALGONDAMAHABUBNAGAR:, APRIL 8. The district bandh called by Maoists protesting against the killing of the Nallamala area secretary, Gajji Srisailam, and his wife, Pushpa, went off peacefully in Nalgonda district on Friday. Business establishments, educational institutions and Government offices remained closed in some sensitive areas. Banks downed their shutters even in the district headquarters causing lot of inconvenience to the customers. The Devarakonda sub-division was in the grip of tension following a bid by naxals to attack the Dindi police station yesterday night. The RTC cancelled 25 services operating on 15 routes as a precautionary measure. The Superintendent of Police, M. M. Bhagwat, said there was no impact of the bandh. "I visited Devarakonda area today. All shops were open and it was like any other day," he maintained.
Pat for police
The SP, who visited the Dindi police station, complimented the personnel for retaliating the fire. "The naxals fired five rounds at the police station and our men did an excellent job," he said congratulating them for the courage shown. NALGONDAMAHABUBNAGAR:, The district bandh call given by CPI (Maoist) naxalites on Friday evoked mixed response and went off peacefully. The bandh call was given against fake encounters. The bandh was observed in Achampet while it was partial at Nagarkurnool and Kollapur areas, said to be strongholds of naxalites. It had little or no impact on the other towns in the district including the district headquarters town of Mahabubnagar. At Nagarkurnool, Achampet and Kollapur towns all the business establishments remained closed.
