KOCHI, APRIL 8. Various church bodies and institutions in the city organised prayers to mark the funeral of Pope John Paul II in Vatican. A holy mass was held at the Rajagiri College in the morning, in which the new Provincio, Fr. Augustine Thottakkara was the main celebrant. Fr. John Berchmans, Father Prefect of Rajagiri, said 35 members of different monasteries of the provincial synaxis participated. Delivering the sermon, Fr Jose Cleetus described the Pope as a `Good shepherd'. The mass concluded at 12.30 p.m. A special holy mass was held at Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, in the morning. This was followed by a special prayer meeting, in which nuns, hospital employees, patients and their helpers participated. The Lissie Hospital, Kaloor, declared a holiday for different sections in the institution. A special holy mass was held on Thursday evening at the Medical Trust Hospital. Fr Ancelem led the mass. The hospital director, P.V. Antony, nuns, staff and patients participated in the function. All institutions under the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly and the Archdiocese of Varapuzha remained closed today as a mark of respect to the Pope. On Thursday evening, the Archdiocese of Varapuzha and the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly jointly took out a procession to remember the Pope. The Archbishop, Daniel Acharuparambil led the procession. Among those who participated in it were the Auxilliary Bishops, Mar Thomas Chakiath and Mar Sebastian Edayentrath. Later, a public function was organised at St. Albert's High School.
