NEW DELHI, APRIL 8. The first semi-automatic kitchen of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for providing cooked mid-day meals to around one lakh of its primary school students was inaugurated at Alipur village in North Delhi by the Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, today. The kitchen will cater to the students of MCD primary schools in the Rohini and Narela zones. Inaugurating it, Mr Dikshit said cooked mid-day meal provides nutritious food to children and encourages them to stay in mainstream of education system. Also he said it makes the parents confident that their children will have a better survival rate and good growth due to intake of quality food. Further, he said, by allowing women some free time as they do not have to cook for their children, the scheme also makes them self dependent.
The Municipal Commissioner, Rakesh Mehta, said that while ensuring the quality of food being served to children studying in its schools, MCD has entrusted the work of providing cooked food to children to 11 big non-governmental organisations and service providers.
