Dust, haze to persist

NEW DELHI APRIL 8. Delhiites are in for yet another day of dust-haze on Saturday, with the weatherman forecasting dust-raising winds in the afternoon. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 37 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Friday were 35.1 degrees Celsius and 24.7 degrees Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.4 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum and minimum relative humidity at Safdarjung was 40 per cent and 10 per cent respectively, Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 40 per cent and a minimum of 14 per cent.

Pakistani woman arrested

NEW DELHI APRIL 8. A 50-year-old Pakistani woman was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here today for alleged criminal trespass. Around noon, Customs officials intercepted a "bruka" clad woman who was leaving the premises with a luggage. During questioning, she identified herself as Rafiqan from Karachi in Pakistan and claimed that she had just arrived onboard a Pakistan airlines flight. However, when the officials checked her passport, they found that Rafiqan had come to Delhi on an earlier date.

Rafiqan, who had been staying here at Turkman Gate, disclosed that she had gone to the airport to receive the luggage sent by her son through a passenger named Abdul Hafij. Subsequently, she was handed over to the airport police, which booked her for criminal trespass.

Nurse jumps to death

NEW DELHI APRIL 8. A 25-year-old nurse working at Hindu Rao Hospital allegedly jumped to her death from the hospital building in North Delhi today. The area Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has been asked to probe the case.

The incident occurred around 6-30 a.m. when Samta Sharma, wife of Neeraj Sharma, allegedly jumped off the building. She was working with Ward No. 18 of the Ear Nose Throat (ENT) Department. She was married to Neeraj about a year ago. Her and Neeraj's fathers are sub-inspectors with the Delhi police.
