Amrut Mahotsava begins in Hubli

HUBLI, APRIL 9. "Punyaradhana Amrut Mahotsava" and a five-day "Akhil Bharath Vedanta Parishath" to commemorate Siddharooda Swamiji's 75th death anniversary, organised under the auspices of Sri Siddharoodha Swami Math Trust Committee, began here today.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, H.K. Patil, inaugurated the function in the presence of Bal Gangadharnath Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt and a host of seers, judges, ministers and political and religious leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Patil said that speaking about Siddharoodha Swamiji was like discussing Vedanta. Although heads of many religious institutions had forgotten the tenets of religion and reduced themselves to belonging one particular caste, Siddharoodha Math continued to be the home for devotees of every religion, he said.

According to Siddharoodha Swamiji, spiritualism is the right of every human being. He never closed the door of his math to any devotee irrespective of his caste, religion, Mr. Patil said.

Releasing a souvenir, S.R. Nayak, judge of Karnataka High Court, said man's greed has made him exploit natural resources to the extreme.

Presiding over the function, S.R. Morey, Minister for Municipal Administration, called upon everyone to follow Siddharooda Swamiji's teachings.

Bal Gangadhar Swamiji, regretted that the dearth of "bhakti ras" has led to loss of belief among ourselves. The only way out is to remember saints such as Siddharoodha Swamiji, he said.

The Ministers, Basavaraj Horatti and Jabbar Khan Honnali; the judges, Mohan Shanthanagowdar and S.R. Bannurmath; the MLA, Jagadish Shettar; and MPs, Manjunath Kunnur and Suresh Angadi, spoke.

S.I. Chikkanagowdra, MLA; A.M. Hindasageri, MLC; Mangalgowri Agnihotri, Mayor, HDMC; H.S. Patil, Member, KPSC; Shivakumar Swamiji, Chidambarashram, Bidar; Shivanand Bharati Swamiji, Inchal; Abhinav Shivaputra Swamiji, Bijapur; Shivalingeshwar Swamiji, Hubli; R.H. Raddi, Chief Administrator, Siddharoodha Math; and District and Sessions Judge and others were present.
