ANANTAPUR, APRIL 9. Another round of intensified pulse polio immunisation drive will be taken up in the district from April 10 to 12. An estimated 5.8 lakh children in the age group of 0 to 5 years will be administered oral pulse polio drops during the drive. Polio drops will be administered at 3,615 booths on April 10 and the pulse polio team take up door-to-door visits on April 11 and 12. In all, 14,460 team members will administer polio drops. According to the medical and health officials, the immunisation drive was being taken up since 1995 with six rounds every year. The incidence of polio has been on the slide in the State since 2002. While eight cases were reported in 2003 only one case (Srikakulam) was reported in 2004. The number of polio cases reported in the country were 1,600 in 2002 (in 159 districts), 225 in 2003 (87), 136 in 2004 (44) and five so far this year.
