Corporation status for Karimnagar
KARIMNAGAR,
APRIL 9.
The State Government issued orders upgrading the Karimnagar Municipality into a corporation last night.
The Karimnagar Municipality was constituted in 1952 as a third grade municipality. In 1957 it was upgraded into a second grade municipality, a first grade municipality in 1987, a special grade municipality in 1993, a selection grade municipality in 1999 and now into a corporation in 2005. The Minister for Endowments, M. Satyanarayana Rao, was instrumental in the upgradation of the municipality into a corporation. Though, the Government had decided to upgrade the Karimnagar Municipality last year along with the Cuddapah Municipality, the decision was kept in abeyance following opposition by TDP and BJP.
