KHAMMAM, APRIL 9. In all 4,500 houses will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 34 crores in Khammam town to meet the housing requirement of the low income groups (LIG) under the Rajiv Gruha Kalpa programme this year, according to the Collector, Rajendra Narendra Nimje. The registration of applications for the housing scheme was taken up in the Municipal Commissioner's office today. Speaking on the occasion, he said 40 acres of land was identified behind the fourth class employees colony in the town. The houses will be constructed in "ground plus two apartment pattern" in 25 acres area in the first phase. The bankers had also come forward to extend loans for the beneficiaries of the scheme. He said that the internal roads, power supply and other facilities would be provided for the phase I apartments at a cost of Rs. 65 lakhs. He informed that the application forms would be sold up to April 19. About 3,000 applications were already sold. The families without own house or house site would be eligible under the programme.
