CHENNAI, APRIL 9. After completing the short-term relief work for the tsunami affected, the Lions Club International district 324-A1 will construct 300 houses, a community hall of 10,000 sq. ft. and provide potable drinking water using the reverse osmosis system. The approximate cost for the project is Rs. 2 crores, which would be supported by the Lions International to the tune of Rs. 1.5 crores, N.S. Sankar, district governor said on Thursday. Addressing mediapersons, he listed the various activities of the Clubs including the Golden School, AIDS Awareness, Heart care, waste to wealth, Sight First, Blood Donation, Diagnostic services, diabetic retinopathy and awareness programmes. The Lions International gave an emergency grant of Rs. 4.5 lakhs to the District and over Rs. 25 lakhs had been directly spent on Tsunami relief, he said. The district 324-A1 would hold its 22nd annual district conference on Sunday at Kamaraj Arangam as a culmination of the service activities worth Rs. 9.75 crores.
