CHENNAI, APRIL 9 . Members of the Gandhi Darshan Kendra, Chennai and Nehru Yuva Kendra, on Wednesday re-enacted Mahatma Gandhi's salt satyagraha 75 years ago in April 1930. "We also used the occasion to reiterate our demand for declaring the Tilak Ghat a national monument. We remembered the occasion when patriots such as T. Prakasam and Durgabai Deshmukh followed the example of Gandhi who staged the Dhandi march and salt satyagraha, and repeated the same protest on the sands of the Marina," said P.N. Srinivasan of Gandhi Darshan Kendra. The Kendra also honoured the heirs of nationalist leaders, Rukmani Lakshmipathy, O.V. Alagesan, A.N. Sivaraman. Mr. Srinivasan said the Kendra was planning a fast to highlight their demand for allowing the public to use Tilak ghat to recall occasions such as these.
