BANGALORE, APRIL 9. Road accidents since Friday night claimed three lives in the city. Early Saturday morning a Toyota Qualis van dropping call centre staff after their duty, knocked down a cyclist and a young policeman; both died on the spot. An unidentified boy of 18, delivering newspapers was the first victim in the accident that occurred close to Malleswaram police station around 6.50 a.m., the police said. The second victim of the same sports utility vehicle was Ram Kashi (23) attached to Sampangirama Nagar police station. A sportsman, the young policeman is believed to have been out for a morning jog when he was killed. The driver of the van is in police custody. In Rajajinagar, Venkatesh (38), a resident of Miller Road in Vasanthnagar, was riding a motorcycle when a lorry collided with the two-wheeler near FTA Circle. He died before medical help could arrive. The lorry driver has been arrested.
Arrested
The Central Crime Branch police arrested three persons, including a native of Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, on charges of stealing two-wheelers and a light commercial vehicle. The police are still trying to figure out how a small truck could have been stolen by the accused. The police gave the names of the arrested persons as Chinnaswamy (28) of Dharmapuri, Panduranga Naik (39) of Arakere near the city, and Khayum (48) of Holerehalli in Kolar district. The vehicles stolen and disposed of by them in recent months together cost around Rs 7.55 lakhs, the police said.
VCDs seized
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Thursday arrested Rakesh (21) of 3rd Stage, Banashankari, and seized pirated VCDs worth Rs. 21,000 from his shop. The police raided the shop on a tip-off by an official of the Indian Music Industry.
