HYDERABAD, APRIL 9. This summer, movies are promising not to burn a hole in papa's pocket. Well, at least not as big as last year. After the March 25 meeting with the Chief Minister, which saw movie industry representatives going in for a few radical decisions, the proposed revision in cinema ticket prices is being slowly implemented in the twin cities. According to theatre industry sources, the Government Order regarding the changes to be implemented in the movie halls, which include an increase in the number of seats in the balcony, apart from a 30 per cent slash in balcony ticket prices, reached the theatre owners and others concerned in the first week of April. Though the Government reportedly asked theatre owners to implement the revision in ticket prices immediately, the latter are taking their own time to do the same. With the GO stipulating that the maximum price for a balcony seat should not exceed Rs. 40, many of those whose existing rates were in the range of Rs. 30 to Rs. 35, say they are not going in for any further reduction. Some, like the owners of the popular Maheshwari theatre, revised their prices from Rs. 40 to Rs. 35 the very next day they got the GO. Others, like Odeon Deluxe theatre, slashed their balcony prices on Friday from Rs. 50 to Rs. 35 and the family circle price from Rs. 40 to Rs.33.
