Balijas seek berth in TTD trust board

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI, APRIL 10. The Andhra Pradesh State Balija, Kapu Welfare Association has renewed its demand that a Balija be accommodated in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) trust board.

Claiming that Sri Krishnadevaraya, who had done a lot for the development of the Tirumala temple, also belonged to the community, the body felt that it was only natural that a seat be reserved for the Balijas.

Maintaining that it was for the first time that the community had no representation in the TTD board, irrespective of the party in power, the State vice-president, O. V. Ramana, flayed the Government and the present trust board for turning a deaf ear to their just demand. As a show of strength, the association plans to lay siege to the MRO offices in the Rayalaseema and coastal districts on April 27 and hold a `chaitanya yatra' on May 20 from Arasavalli Sun temple in Srikakulam to Chittoor, gathering signatures from the community members en route.
