Good response to Pulse Polio drive

CUDDAPAH, APRIL 10. Over 3.16-lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered oral polio drops in Cuddapah district on Sunday, despite spells of rain.

The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, launched the Pulse Polio drive at Sri Saraswathi Vidya Mandir High School in Sriramnagar here.

He administered polio drops to children including his daughter, Ishika, at a programme organised by the Rotary Club of Cuddapah at Zion College here.

Lauding the Rotary Club's efforts, Mr. Ranjan sought cooperation from people of all walks of life to make the district polio-free.

Paramedical workers and teachers would undertake door-to-door visits on Monday and Tuesday and administer drops to children not covered today.

The District Medical and Health Officer, K. Pitchi Reddy, 3,047 centres have been set up in the district.

Eighteen centres were located at bus stations and railway stations, besides 67 mobile booths. The Rotary Club governor's representative, K. Rajarathnam Isaac, Rotary Club of Cuddapah president, O. Jayamani, the secretary, G.S. Murthy, and assistant governor, G. Subrahmanyam, were present.

KURNOOL: The Collector, Vikas Raj, formally launched the Pulse Polio programme at M.H. School here on Sunday. He asked the health officials to cover children who were not administered drops today.

The teams would undertake a survey in the next two days to cover all children. The DMHO, K.K. Sai Prasad, and others were present. Members of the Rotary Club of Kurnool New City went round Bangarupet, Prakash Nagar, Nehru Nagar, NR Pet, Dharmapet and others areas advising families to vaccinate children.

The club president, Nagireddy, the secretary, Sambasiva Rao, and others were present.

CHITTOOR: The Joint Collector, Rajendra Prasad, along with the Rajya Sabha member, Durga Ramakrishna, and the MLA, A.S. Manohar, has launched the programme at the urban health centre at Sathyanarayanapuram here.

The Joint Collector said there were 4,32-lakh children in 0-5 years age group in the district. Over 2,943 posts were set up at different places.

These apart, the vaccine would be administered in the 86 PHCs and 644 sub-centres in the district.

A door-to-door- campaign would be undertaken to administer drops to children who had missed out today.

In all 94 mobile teams were pressed into service to administer drops, especially at Tirupati, Tirumala, Tiruchanur, Srikalahasti, Kanipakam and Mogili pilgrim centres. Buffer stock of the vaccine was also kept at 10 places in the district.

The DM&HO, Ramakrishna Reddy, and the doctors -- Anand and Anuradha - of the urban health centre were present.

TIRUPATI: In Tirupati town the municipality set up 100 centres in addition to 21 special centres set up at TTD choultries, temples, footpath, etc., in order to cover the children of visiting pilgrims.

The local MLA, M. Venkatramana (Cong.) and the TUDA Chairman, B. Karunakar Reddy, besides the regional organiser of the Social Welfare Council, M.R.V. Santhamma, participated in a camp organised by a local NGO, Society Action for Voluntary Efforts (SAVE).

The Municipal Commissioner, B. Rami Reddy, said steps have been taken to ensure that even streetchildren and the wards of rag-pickers and beggars are covered.

NELLORE: The district Collector, B. Rajsekhar, has said arrangements have been made to administer polio drops to 3-lakh eligible children in the district. He formally launched the programme in Chukkalakatta area of Balaji Nagar, Nellore town, on Sunday.

He said arrangements have been made to administer drops even in the slum areas.
