THRISSUR, APRIL 10. Tens of thousands of devotees visited Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple on Sunday to take part in the Kavu Theendal ceremony. The rites began with Thrichandana Charthu and Saktheya Puja, performed by Narayanan Unni Adikal of Kunnathur Math, Pradeep Kumar Adikal of Nilathu Math and Ravindranath Adikal of Madathil Math. The head of the Kodungallur Kovilakam, Goda Varma Raja, presented the Achara Vadi (ceremonial club) to senior officials. The ceremonial umbrella was then unfolded, signalling the beginning of Kavu Theendal. The devotees were led by Palakkal Velan, who holds the customary right to begin the Theendal. Hundreds of devotees stormed the temple complex, brandishing ceremonial swords, during the ceremony. Clad in red, they danced in abandon.
