PONDICHERRY, APRIL 10 . The Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) Baldev Raj has urged engineering students to exploit the opportunities that had opened up with the country presently emerging as a global player in Information Technology. He was speaking on Saturday at the first convocation ceremony of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College at Madagadipet, near here. Dr Baldev said that hard work would always stand youth in good stead. Calling for holistic educational development, he said it was a well-known that India today provided huge opportunities in software and services. He said updating skills and knowledge was the key to make a long-lasting contribution towards making India an engineering superpower. Dr. Baldev said the country's success in nuclear energy and space with software graphics and mathematics should encourage youngsters. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who presented medals to college toppers, said that engineers should take up self-employment projects to create more job opportunities. The Union Administration was on its part was promoting projects such as the free port and special economic zone to generate employment. He said that the special economic zone would focus on Information Technology industries and automobile spares units. Hundred and sixty-five graduates were presented with the degree certificates.
