BELLARY, APRIL 10. The Bellary MLA, B. Sriramulu, said here on Sunday that it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to ensure that their children are immunised against various diseases. Speaking after launching the Pulse Polio Programme at the Government Hospital at Gandhinagar, Mr. Sriramulu said that it is necessary to ensure that children grow up to be healthy as they help in building a strong country. He administered the polio vaccine to a child to mark the beginning of the campaign.s Apart from the pulse polio programme, arrangements have been made to administer the polio vaccine to children at all health centres on Thursday. He urged people to take advantage of the facilities provided. He also urged the public to cooperate with the officials of the Health Department to ensure that the district is polio free by 2006-07. Around 3.18 lakh children below the age of five years will be administered the polio vaccine across the district. The authorities of the Health Department have geared up to make the programme a success by covering as many children as possible on the first day. Health workers will also take up a door-to-door campaign to administer the vaccine. The Mayor, G. Somashekar Reddy, the former Municipal President, G. Padmavathi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, G.S. Shivaswamy, the Municipal Commissioner, Govind Reddy, and other health officials were present.
