Somnath's stand

Sir, — Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's refusal to go to Sydney because the Australian authorities said they would stick to their security-check rules is shocking. He has strangely made it a case of India's prestige being at stake. It would have been better had he gone ahead with his scheduled visit, complying with the Australian rules under protest, and on his return asked New Delhi to take up the matter at the diplomatic level with Canberra.
