GUNTUR, APRIL 10. About 4.50 lakh children in the age group of 0 to 5 years were vaccinated for polio in Guntur district on Sunday under the Pulse Polio programme inaugurated by the Minister for Cooperation, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, here.

The Minister called upon people in general and medical fraternity to help create a polio-free society by getting all children in susceptible age group vaccinated without fail. He administered the polio drops at the Mahatma Gandhi College in Guntur at a camp organised by the College in association with the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists.

The Minister complimented the non-governmental organisations for coming forward in a big way in organising such camps by providing all support services and taking the vaccination programme closer to the people's door step.

2,313 camps held

The district Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, administered polio drops at the municipal urban health centre in M.T. Krishna Babu Colony in the city to mark the inaugural of the efforts being made by the Guntur Municipal Corporation. The Special Officer, GMC, said that 2,313 polio camps were organised all over the district for reaching out to entire population in that group.

The District Medical and Health Officer, M.
