Ravi, Rohit, Abhijeet stun Grandmasters

DUBAI, APRIL 10. Lanka Ravi, G. Rohit and Abhijeet Gupta shared the spotlight as they upstaged Grandmasters during a highly-productive sixth round for the Indians in the Dubai Open chess tournament here on Saturday.

Lanka Ravi surprised Armenia's Artashes Minasian, rated 2,597, while teenagers Rohit and Abhijeet stunned Lithuania's Sarunas Sulskis (2,545) and Moldova's Dmitry Svetushkin (2,530), respectively. Another youngster D. Sai Srinivas drew with Georgian GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2,518).

The other Indian winners of the day were, Sandipan Chanda, K. Humpy, R. B. Ramesh, S. Kidambi, Parimarjan Negi, Omkar Patwardhan, Shashikant Kutwal, S. P. Sethuraman and Chaitanya Vaidya.

Leading results (sixth round): Kiril Georgiev (Bul) (4.5) drew with Giorgi Kacheishvili (Geo) (5); Alexander Motylev (Rus) (4.5) drew with Tarnaz Gelashvili (Geo) (4.5); Aleksej Aleksandrov (Blr) (4) lost to Ashot Anastasian (Arm) (5); Merab Gagunshvili (Geo) (5) bt Evgenij Miroshnichenko (Ukr) (4).
