NEW DELHI, APRIL 10. The Indian Special Representative to China, M.K. Narayanan, told a television channel that India and China were ready to move forward in a spirit of give and take, forgetting past mistakes. Both sides, he claimed, could produce a new "Asian age." According to C.V. Ranganathan, former Indian Ambassador to China, the Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao's visit to India is a continuation of high-level visits between the two countries. It reflected a growth in political understanding and greater sensitivity to each other's concerns. "It's no longer a question of India versus China, but India and China driving the global economy," Mr. Ranganathan said. Both countries, he felt, had developed vested interests due to the massive growth in bilateral trade and investment relations. India and China also had a joint interest in ensuring stability in the larger Asian region given the fact that both had unstable neighbours. The Chinese Premier has a busy schedule in the capital on Monday. His day begins with a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. After a wreath-laying ceremony at Rajghat, Mr. Wen will call on the Vice-President, B.S. Shekhawat, and then go in for formal talks with the Prime Minister at Hyderabad House. Dr. Singh will also host a lunch in his honour. He will call on the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, meet the Leader of the Opposition, L.K. Advani, and also address an "India-China Business Cooperation Conference" in the afternoon. Late in the evening, Mr. Wen will attend a commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
