HYDERABAD, APRIL 10: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, inaugurated the Intensified Pulse Polio Programme by administering drops to children. Dr. Reddy appreciated the parents who brought their children to the Round Table School at Filmnagar for being given polio drops. In the limits of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, over 12,000 employees and volunteers were on duty at 3,200 immunisation posts targeting 6.05 lakh children. Among others present were the Union Minister of State for Health, P. Lakshmi, the Secunderabad MP, Anjan Kumar Yadav, and the Khairatabad MLA, P. Janardhan Reddy. The Commissioner, Family Welfare, C.B.S. Venkataramana, said that 2.43 lakh Government employees and volunteers were on duty at 63,500 centres all over the State to administer polio drops to an estimated 1.03 crore children. The day's activities would cost the exchequer Rs. 4.65 crores, he added The soaring temperature towards noon necessitated the use of extra ice packs over and beyond the four frozen plastic packs in vaccine carriers. The extra packs were despatched promptly, he said.
